Gnome with Spade and Lantern

The gnome with the spade and the lantern was in his garden one cold, frosty night; his shrubs were all covered with hoar-frost, and he knew that the next day it would be sure to snow; so he took his spade and sharpened it, while at every stroke he said, Oh! If only I could dig myself a hole under the earth! He went on digging till he worked himself into such a heat that his red nose became quite white with frost.
